The dog days of summer are here, the 4th of July is way back in the rear view, and the season is winding down.

But, for whatever reason, authorities across L.A. county are turning up the heat on drunk drivers with a “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign that starts today and runs through September 3.

Not only that, but the LAPD plans to strike hard in the heart of Hollywood tonight:

The LAPD is setting up a checkpoint from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Hollywood Boulevard between Bronson Avenue and Gower Street.

Meanwhile, the law enforcement departments that are part of L.A. County's “Avoid the 100” local agencies alliance are launching a late summer crackdown that includes several checkpoints and across the county this weekend.

Affected communities include Gardena, Pasadena, South Los Angeles, North Hollywood El Segundo, Hermosa Beach, Inglewood, Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes Estates, Redondo, Torrance, Burbank, Santa Monica, Baldwin Park, Beverly Hills, San Gabriel, Lynwood, LAPD's Devonshire area and lots of freeways (via the CHP).
