It might be the calm before the New Year's Eve storm, but police are being vigilant nonetheless.

Yes, despite a holiday crackdown that has already seen 520 DUI arrests across L.A. County between Dec. 13 and Dec. 25, cops are really just getting warmed up. The amateur night known as NYE is like shooting fish in a barrel for drunk-driver busts.

The windup starts tonight, and we have the 411 (including a checkpoint in Hollywood) on where police will be:

Tonight from 6 p.m. to midnight the LAPD will have a DUI checkpoint operating at Manchester Avenue and Hoover Street in South Los Angeles.

Tonight from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. there will be a checkpoint at Roscoe Boulevard and Gloria Avenue in North Hills.

Tonight the L.A. County Sheriff's Department will have a checkpoint from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. somewhere in the city of Paramount (they're not saying exactly where).

Saturday from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. there will be an LAPD checkpoint in the heart of clubland, at Hollywood and Cahuenga boulevards.

Saturday from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. a checkpoint will be waiting for you at Woodley Avenue and Parthenia Street in North Hills.

Saturday from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. cops will have a DUI checkpoint operating near Staples Center and LA Live, at Figueroa and Ninth streets, downtown.

From 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday extra patrol cars will be roaming the streets of the LAPD's West Valley Division area specifically in search of drunks behind the wheel.

Finally, the Sheriff's Department says there will be a checkpoint somewhere in San Dimas (they're not saying exactly where) from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Saturday.
