The Los Angeles Police Department and other law enforcement agencies are gearing up for a whole new year of busting drunk drivers.

The LAPD's weekly DUI crackdown is aiming for drivers in Hollywood, downtown, the Valley and more. The L.A. Sheriff's Department has more than a few checkpoints waiting for you, too.

The LAPD says that letting you know where and when its drunk-driver crackdowns are happening dissuades idiots from getting behind the wheel after one too many.

” … Research shows that traffic collisions involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20 percent when well-publicized DUI checkpoints and proactive DUI patrols are conducted routinely,” the LAPD says.

So here's your warning:

-Tonight from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. extra patrol units will be on the streets of Hollywood. The LAPD calls it a DUI saturation patrol.

-Tonight from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. a sheriff's checkpoint will be running in West Hollywood (authorities are not saying exactly where it will be).

-Saturday from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. a checkpoint will be waiting for on Van Nuys Boulevard and Haddon Avenue in luxurious Pacoima.

-Saturday from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. a DUI saturation patrol will be taking place in the LAPD's 77th Street Division area of South L.A.

-Saturday from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. a saturation patrol will be happening in the LAPD's Mission Division area of the Valley.

-Saturday from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. a DUI saturation patrol will hit the streets of the LAPD's Central Bureau area, which includes downtown and the Eastside.

Be safe.
