Beer holidays (Cinco de Mayo, St. Patrick's Day). New Year's Eve. The 4th of July. They're all prime time for catching drunk drivers.

But spring is also wall-to-wall party season. Despite the massive effort over the Cinco de Mayo weekend to ensnare inebriated partiers behind the wheel, which resulted in at least 466 arrests countywide, authorities aren't letting up.

Here's your DUI checkpoint and drunk patrol cheat sheet for the weekend. The action starts tonight:
]
Tonight from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. there will be an LAPD DUI checkpoint waiting for you on Reseda Boulevard at Parthenia Street in lovely Reseda.

-Saturday from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. extra patrol cars and motorcycle units will be roaming the streets of the LAPD's 77th Street Division in South L.A. in a search for drunks behind the wheel. Police call the operation a “saturation patrol.”

So, why do we tell you this stuff? Don't ask us, ask the department, which distributed the above information:

The deterrent effect of DUI checkpoints is a proven resource in reducing the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol or drug involved traffic collisions. Research shows that traffic collisions involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20 percent when well-publicized DUI checkpoints and proactive DUI patrols are conducted routinely.

Be safe.
