A car with an Uber decal on its windshield was shot up in an alleged homicide this morning, police said.

However, “The driver is not affiliated with Uber,” Los Angeles Police Department Officer Aareon Jefferson told us. The California Highway Patrol repeated that assertion: “The driver of that vehicle was not an Uber driver,” CHP spokesman Edgar Figueroa said.

The man behind the wheel of a Toyota Corolla was fatally struck by multiple rounds of gunfire in the 2900 block of North Broadway in Lincoln Heights about 2:12 a.m., police said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, Figueroa said.

A vehicle believed to have been involved in the attack was soon being pursued by LAPD units east into the San Gabriel Valley. California Highway Patrol vehicles took over the pursuit at 2:37 a.m., Figueroa told us.

It ended, apparently as the pursued vehicle ran out of gas, at 2:43 a.m. on Hacienda Boulevard near the 60 freeway in La Puente, he said.

Four suspects in that vehicle were taken into custody, according to the LAPD.

Capt. Edward Pape told KTLA News the suspects are gang members.

The identity of the deceased was not yet available, a coroner's official told us. Family members had yet to be notified of his demise.
