Fatal Big-Rig Accident near Highway 22 in Yakima County

YAKIMA COUNTY, WA (November 1, 2021) – A driver lost his life Saturday following a vehicle and semi truck collision on Myers Road.

The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. on October 23 at the intersection of Myers Road and State Highway 22.

According to the WSP, the driver of a 2012 Hyundai Elantra heading southbound on Meyers failed to stop at a red light. There, they collided with a semi-truck that was hauling two freight trailers while heading west on Highway 22.

Officers arrived on the scene and pronounced the Elantra driver deceased. Officials said it’s unclear whether the Elantra driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Moreover, officials withheld the victim’s name awaiting notification of next of kin.

At this time, WSP did not consider drugs or alcohol to be a factor in the accident. However, an investigation is currently underway.
