High-Speed Pursuit near 6th Avenue Resulted in One Fatality, One Injured

KINGS COUNTY, CA (May 5, 2022) – A high-speed police pursuit along Highway 198 ended in a crash and left one person dead Friday evening.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened just after 10:00 p.m. near 6th Avenue.

Officers claimed that they attempted to stop a driver of a speeding Chevrolet Camaro in the eastbound lanes but refused to pull over.

As a result, the Camaro lost control near 6th Avenue and overturned, crashing into the back of another vehicle.

Afterward, the two vehicles went down the embankment on the side of the highway, near Avenue 11.

Unfortunately, the driver of the Camaro died at the scene. Meanwhile, the woman driving the other vehicle was hospitalized for treatment of major injuries.

At this time, authorities are waiting for the toxicology report to determine if drugs and/or alcohol played a role in the incident.

Kings County officials continue to investigate the crash.
