Man Struck and Killed While Changing Tire near Highland Avenue

SAN DIEGO, CA (April 28, 2022) – Early Thursday night, one driver was killed in a deadly accident on State Route 54.

The incident occurred around 5:50 p.m., on the eastbound lanes of the freeway, just east of Highland Avenue.

According to reports, the driver of a Toyota Scion parked in the center median after his car became disabled. There, the driver of a Mazda sedan struck the man as he was changing the tire.

Eventually, medical responders arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

California Highway Patrol officers did not release the identity of the victim, pending notification from the next of kin. At this time, San Diego Officials are investigating the cause of the deadly collision on State Route 54.
