L.A.'s own Golden Road Brewing is readying a return of their charitable 2020 IPA, brewed in collaboration with the Los Angeles River Revitalization Corporation. First canned last January, the 7.4% ABV bitter ale is the first 2015 release in the brewery's Custom IPA series and is an effort to raise awareness of the Greenway 2020 project, a campaign to connect 51 miles of the L.A. River to public green space by the start of next decade.

A portion of proceeds from sales at the Pub at Golden Road Brewing goes directly to the local nonprofit, meaning every time you pour a glass of this new IPA, you're contributing to L.A. River Corp's ambitious goal. As a tasty bonus, the beer ain't so bad, either.

Hitting the shelves and local bars by mid-February (and as early as February 1), this year's 2020 IPA is similar to its predecessor — piney, citrus-laced aromatics girded with a light malt roast. It drinks like a West Coast IPA, with a brigade of Chinook, Simcoe and Cascade hops leading the charge. In the glass, 2020's dark red body belies the 74 IBUs lurking beneath the surface, but don't be fooled: this beer is best enjoyed by hopheads.

Look for four-packs of 16-ounce 2020 IPA cans or get a few cans of it inside Golden Road's new springtime IPA Sampler (which also includes three cans each of Point the Way IPA and Wolf Among Weeds). To get an advanced taste, head over to Golden Road's expansive brewpub in Atwater Village where it is on tap now.

This beer might be bitter, but charity sure does go down sweet.
