Everything You Need to Know from the Inside Out

Did you know that anxiety is one of the most prevalent and common mental health issues in the world? In America alone, anxiety disorders affect nearly 40 million adults aged 18 or older, which equates to about 18% of the total US population. Not only is this number a cause for concern, but it is also an indication of just how common it is for someone to feel symptoms.

Anxiety is a real challenge for those who struggle with it from day to day, and many of us aren’t even aware of what triggers our anxieties. Where does anxiety come from? What causes the symptoms? How does anxiety begin? These are all critically important questions, and Dr. Bill Cole, Founder of the Cellular Health Accelerator program helped us with some answers.

Let’s take a look down below with the most likely culprit – stress.

Stress & Anxiety

To put it simply, one of the biggest causes of anxiety is stress – and that is precisely why we are continuing to see more and more cases of anxiety pop up not just in the US, but in our local communities as well. Anxiety is almost always related to the amount of stress that we have in our lives. Different stressors can bring different sets of anxieties, all which contribute to a larger, more complex mental health experience.

“However, this isn’t to say that stress and a hectic lifestyle are the sole reasons for anxiety – they aren’t,” says Dr. Cole. “In fact, there are plenty of people out there who live stressful and hectic lives, and they will go their entire lives without once feeling symptoms of anxiety. For others, however, stress can simply be the straw that breaks the camel’s back,” he added.

Stress is certainly the spark that lights the fire, but the kindling, timber, and oxygen that keeps that fire going comes down to the molecular level – our cells.

Poisoned Cells

Each and every day, toxins like bad fats and sugars wreak havoc on our bodies on a molecular and cellular level. These toxins have a dangerous effect on our bodies because they poison our cells and leave us vulnerable to mental health conditions like anxiety.

More specifically, the cells in your gut are much more prone to becoming poisoned by these toxins – and when that happens, you are hindering the main serotonin producer in your body. Serotonin is a hormone that our body releases to help us feel good and to enhance brain health. For those who struggle with anxiety, psychiatrists might prescribe something known as an SSRI, or a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor – this is a drug that helps to facilitate the release of serotonin in the bloodstream to help the body feel good and to reduce symptoms of anxiety.

Going back to those poisoned cells in your gut – roughly 80% of the serotonin in your body is produced in your gut, so if you have poisoned and inflamed cells trying to do that work, you are likely going to fall short of the serotonin that your body needs to eliminate symptoms of anxiety.

Do You Have a Bad Gut?

If you’ve been experiencing anxiety, the first place to look is your gut. Have you been experiencing any of the following symptoms?

  • Heartburn
  • Acid reflux
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Bloating after a meal
  • Stomach pains

If so, you likely have a damaged gut, which means that your body might not be able to produce enough serotonin to aid your mental health when battling symptoms of anxiety brought on by stress. Not to mention, cells elsewhere in your body that might be inflamed or poisoned will essentially be cordoned off from whatever serotonin your body is able to produce. So, at this point, not only are you struggling to produce enough serotonin, but you’re also not able to take full advantage of the serotonin that you do have available in your blood stream.

When you put all of this together, along with the multitudes of stressors that living in today’s world can bring with it, you could be a prime candidate for anxiety.

The Solution

Dr. Cole is a firm believer that what you put into your body is going to be the key to a happy, healthy life both mentally and physically. The foods and beverages that we consume on a daily basis are full of artificial ingredients, synthetic sugars and sweeteners, preservatives, pesticides, antibiotics, chemical additives, fluoride, chlorine, and so much more.

All of these ingredients have the potential to wreak havoc on our cells and cause them to create that inflamed fatty barrier that I always talk so much about. When this happens, your cells go on the defensive, and that is when they become weakened to the stressors which ultimately bring on symptoms of anxiety.

What we eat plays a major role in how we feel mentally – and knowing that might be the difference maker you need to avoid those feelings of anxiety.
