All the vampires, walkin' through the valley – Move west down Ventura Boulevard.
What started out as a Facebook event intended for a few die-hard Tom Petty fans quickly gained traction over the last week as media outlets all over L.A. caught wind of the Tom Petty Memorial Vampire Walk. Event organizer Mary Soracco had no idea it was going to explode the way it did, writing on the Facebook event page, “Wow. Ok. I didn't expect this to blow up like this! Seriously I thought it would be me and like 7 or 8 of my friends.” Last night, seven or eight friends turned into at least a few hundred Tom Petty fans — many dressed in full vampire regalia — meeting up on the steps of the the Sherman Oaks Galleria, walking east on Moorpark Street, turning south on Noble Avenue and, finally, moving west on Ventura Boulevard. After the walk, which honored the late rocker's famous “Free Fallin'” lyrics, everyone reconvened on the Galleria steps and sang some of Petty's greatest hits for an hour and a half.
