It's not every day that two excellent L.A. indie rock bands get together to share space on a piece of wax. We wish it was, but hocking 7-inches just ain't no way to make a livin', 'specially if you've got to split up them beans at the end of the day.

Thankfully, Silver Lake stalwarts — and apparent Francophiles — Le Switch and Les Blanks aren't in it for the money.

Not only are they releasing a new song each via a pending “Storefront Split,” they're offering those tracks up, to you, for free download right now.

Le Switch's “How We Imagined It” hails from the band's upcoming album, The Rest of Me is Space, which is set to be wrapped up by the summer.

Offering three and a half minutes of very digable '60s-inspired pop-rock, the track proves that Le Switch are still, as the Weekly once declared, “Los Angeles' answer to Dr. Dog.”

Les Blanks is due a followup to it's 2008 self-released LP, Shoot the Horse, though whether or not “Straw Man” will make the cut remains to be seen.

Here's a widget:

Both bands are playing a local record release show at Casey's Downtown on April 30, which (naturally) will mark the physical release of the Storefront Split.

In the meantime, Le Switch are playing a handful of California gigs including one at The Bootleg with their Spanish cousins Los Baby Fools.
