Brooklyn based, Tel Aviv-born producer, multi-instrumentalist and LGBTQ artist DOV releases the It Feels Right EP on July 24, and that was preceded by the “Reciprocate” single in April. We chatted about all that, Pride and more…

L.A. WEEKLY: When did you start writing, singing and performing, and when did you realize it could be a career?

DOV: I started singing and performing when I was 9 years old in school choir, then around the age of 15, I started writing music. Only after I moved to NYC in my early 20s and became involved in a few music projects for TV shows did I realize that it could be a career for me. More than anything, it’s really what I want to do and what I’m most passionate about.

Describe your sound…

Gentle electronica filled with synths and percussion that mixes both familiar and alien sounds. It combines my love of pop and electronic music.

Tell us about the “Reciprocate” single — what is it about?

“Reciprocate” is about yearning to give everything to someone, although you struggle to feel anything yourself. It’s about wanting to give yourself to someone when you’re emotionally unavailable, so instead you cope with high nights and seedy one-night stands. It’s about breaking emotional attachment through sex and partying. I co-wrote it with an amazing queer artist from London name Vaughan.

How will you be celebrating Pride?

Hopefully with my close queer gang, but def keeping it small. We all wanna be careful with everything going on but at the same time it’s our “national holiday” and it’s a great opportunity to hang and be there for one another.

What else do you have coming up?

I have my EP coming out in July, also a few live online sets lined up for Pride and some exciting collabs for my next release. Def using this time to lock myself in my studio and work on new music!

“Reciprocate” is out now.
