Hundreds of fans and curiosity seekers — including Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones (Jonesy’s Jukebox), LoveyDove musicians Dan West and Azalia Snail, and artist Art Morales — showed up for the opening-night reception for Dosshaus’ “Paper-Thin Hotel” at Corey Helford Gallery on Saturday, April 7. Once people made it past the long lines leading into the exhibit, they were swept up in Dosshaus’ cartoonlike world, which replicated a flophouse in playfully imaginative style, with several motel rooms, a lobby, a bar and a jukebox all elaborately constructed out of cardboard.

Dosshaus artists David Connelly and Zoey Taylor, dressed in striking cardboard costumes, were living, breathing components of their own installation as they moved from one noir-ish motel room to another. Taylor told the Weekly to pay close attention to the seemingly innocuous motel-style cardboard paintings that were hung in each room — she said each painting hold clues to the duo’s next big project.

Along with “Sky,” a separate exhibition of paintings and sketches by Camilla d’Errico, Dosshaus’ “Paper-Thin Hotel” is available for viewing Tuesdays through Saturdays, noon to 6 p.m.; free; through May 5. (310) 287-2340, coreyhelfordgallery.com.
