A black man was fatally shot just after 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30, on the 3600 block of Chesapeake Avenue in Baldwin Hills. He has since been identified as 18-year-old Donte Catchings.

Detective Dave Garrido of the LAPD told the Los Angeles Times that after receiving a report of the shooting, police pulled up to Chesapeake Avenue to find Catchings bleeding from the face. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials know the shooter was another black male between 18 and 20 years old, and that the walk-up crime was probably gang-related. Anyone with additional information about the shooting is urged to call Detective Burke at (213) 485-4341.
