With temperatures in the 80s forecast through Thanksgiving, we wouldn't blame you if your snowboard has been stuffed in your closet without much hope of coming out.

But the folks at Snow Summit and Bear Mountain say this is the week to dust that board off. Snow Summit is scheduled to open for the season on Wednesday and Bear Mountain opens Black Friday.

Is it even cold enough overnight to produce artificial snow?

Sounds like it. The resorts said in a statement that “snowmaking will continue whenever possible with more lifts and runs expected to open in the near future.”

However, the resorts say that beginners should go to Snow Summit this week, as beginner terrain will not be ready at Bear Mountain, which will kick off with weekend-only operations until December 12, when daily openings are expected.

Opening celebrations at both resorts this week will include DJs and food-and-drink specials, according to a statement.

Snow Summit should have its Chair 1, which serves intermediate and advanced riders at Miracle Mile, ready for action Wednesday, resort officials said. Snow Summit's Chair 4 should be operating for the Bear Bottom Beginner's area, too, they said.

Chris Riddle, vice president of marketing at Big Bear Mountain Resorts (which includes Snow Summit):

We couldn’t be more excited to announce opening day at Snow Summit and Bear Mountain for the 2014/2015 winter season. This is the Thanksgiving treat that all snowboarders and skiers have been waiting for.

Tickets will be discounted “until more lifts and runs are available,” the resorts say. Get them online, or by calling 909-866-5766. A snow report can be had by dialing 888-SUM-MIT1.
