Christine O'Donnell is the eccentric Tea Partier who shocked the world this week by beating Establishment Republican Mike Castle in the Delaware primary, thus likely ruining whatever outside shot the GOP had at taking the Senate. O'Donnell has spent most of her ramshackle public affairs career fighting abortion, sex education (including, most famously, masturbation), and of course, the old reliable “homosexual agenda.”

But Michelle Goldberg at The Daily Beast reports that O'Donnell has a lesbian sister right here in L.A. To which we can only say, if you're out there, please contact us.

The Goldberg report is fascinating. It tells the story of Wade Richards, a young 20-year-old gay man who had been ostensibly “cured” of his homosexuality and flew to L.A. to “join forces” with O'Donnell, who was a former spokeswoman for the Phyllis Schlafly outfit, Concerned Woman for America. Together, they created The Savior's Alliance for Lifting the Truth, or The SALT, in 1996, which was all about the aforementioned gays, abortion and sex, all of which they apparently thought we have too much of. They ran it on a shoestring out of her L.A. apartment. (L.A: Crazy magnet.)

Richards started to have doubts about his “cure.” In fact, meeting O'Donnell's lesbian sister convinced him maybe he didn't need to be “cured.”

“What helped me really come to grips was that her sister is an open lesbian and was living in L.A. and was in a long-term relationship and was working with a youth organization,” he told Goldberg. “By hanging out with her, I saw, wow, she has a pretty normal life.”

If you haven't been keeping up with your O'Donnell news, aside from her extreme views, she's also been a perennial candidate who hasn't had a job in recent years and seems to pay her bills with campaign money. Her house was in foreclosure and the IRS placed a lien on it. And so forth.
