Since there is no jinxing in baseball, and it's culturally acceptable to mention the words “Dodgers” and “playoffs” in the same sentence now, the club is holding a rally after Sunday's Fan Appreciation Day game to get the team off on the right cleat.

The Dodgers play the Colorado Rockies in game # 162 Sunday, September 29 at 1:10 p.m. Assuming a typical three-hour contest and a buffer afterwards, the rally should begin around 4:30 p.m.

A few details from the Dodgers' press release:

The Postseason Rally is free with a ticket for Sunday's game, which also is Fan Appreciation Day.

Dodger players, manager Don Mattingly and Hall of Famer Tommy Lasorda will partake in the Postseason Rally, which will be hosted by television talk show host Arsenio Hall. The Postseason Rally will include musical entertainment and a 2013 season highlights video that will be played on Dodger Vision.

In addition, immediately following Sunday's game, two of the final prizes on Fan Appreciation Day will be awarded–two Dodger season tickets for 2014 as well as an all-expenses paid trip to Australia for two to join the Dodgers for their season opening games with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

While Fan Appreciation Day has been going on for decades, the postseason rally is a new idea, and given that Los Angeles supports its team like no other city, it's a good one.

With 3,585,885 customers having passed through the turnstiles (and three games to go), L.A. ranks first in the Major League Baseball home attendance. With blue-donning fans seemingly everywhere, the Dodgers lead baseball in road attendance too, averaging 35,115 through 78 games.

Three games remain on the road schedule, beginning tonight at San Francisco's AT&T Park. The matchups for the Giants series are as follows. Hyun-Jin Ryu versus Matt Cain tonight at 7:15 p.m., Ricky Nolasco opposite Barry Zito Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. and Edinson Volquez vs. Tim Lincecum Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
