While Dodger Stadium is usually occupied with roaring baseball fans this time of year, Tuesday, May 26, it will become the largest COVID-19 testing site in Los Angeles.

Mayor Eric Garcetti made the announcement Friday. The tests will be free to all, with sign-ups available online or by calling (213) 978-1028.

“This site isn’t only special because of where it is, and all those amazing memories we have of going to Chavez Ravine,” Garcetti said. “It’s remarkable because we’ll be able to test up to 6,000 people a day. That’s three times larger than any testing site that we have.”

Garcetti added that the site will be constructed for efficiency and to allow for shorter wait times.

There will be 60 staff members at the on-hand, and multiple screens that will play out the testing procedures, letting patients know what to expect when they drive up for their turn.

While it is open to all who ask, priority will be given to those with more severe symptoms, such as shortness of breath and fever, cough, chills, muscle pain, headaches, sore throat, or a new loss of sense of smell.

Los Angeles now has the capacity to test up to 21,000 people a day, and as of Friday over 433,000 have been conducted in the county, making up 30 percent of the testing in the entire state of California.
