Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti announced that the Dodger Stadium COVID-19 vaccination site will close on Friday and Saturday as it has used up its current supply of vaccines.

After Thursday, the city’s entire supply of first-dose vaccines will have been used, leading to the Stadium’s closure, as well as the other four non-mobile vaccination sites in the city.

“I want to be clear. Los Angeles needs more doses,” Garcetti said. “We learned that other cities with smaller populations are receiving more doses than our entire county with a larger population. When we look to cities with lower cases, we see 50% more doses going to other cities.”

Garcetti added that Los Angeles received 16,000 vaccines this week, which is a number the city can administer in one day.

While Garcetti said he doesn’t want to take doses from any other cities that may be receiving more than Los Angeles, the city needs a “steady supply to meet the moment.”

The mayor is hopeful that the city will receive more vaccines before they officially run out, but to this point the city sites will be closed until Tuesday.
