President Biden has urged state and local officials to reconsider a lift on their coronavirus restrictions, encouraging them to instead reinstate mask mandates. Mask mandates have lapsed as of late, prompting the CDC director to warn the nation of the “impending doom” that is a possible virus surge.
When he entered office he issued a call for Americans to where masks for the first 100 days of his administration, arguing that doing so would help curb COVID-19 cases while the country ramped up vaccinations.

In nine states over the past two weeks, virus cases have risen more than 40 percent. Michigan led the way with a 133 percent increase. The Northeast has also seen a troubling rise in virus cases. Connecticut reported a 62 percent jump in cases over the past two weeks, and New York and Pennsylvania both reported increases of more than 40 percent.
The director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) earlier Monday warned Americans against letting their guard down against the virus, saying she felt a sense of “impending doom” over rising coronavirus cases.
The United States has surpassed 30 million cases of COVID-19, and cases continue to rise yet again.
According to the CDC director, the seven-day average of new cases is still around 60,000 per day, a 10 percent increase over the past week. The cases per day are still far from the peak in January, but the rise comes after a sustained period of stagnation and is raising some cause for concern.
