With Sacramento still in its maddening political deadlock, some friendly intra-Golden State showing off feels quite refreshing in contrast.

As such, the fourth annual East LA Meets Napa event fills the Art Deco-Mediterranean Revival-Southwestern halls of Union Station with Latin cuisine from the Los Angeles area (Moles La Tía, Teresitas, Palate Food + Wine, El Tepeyac, et al.) and wines from Napa on Friday, July 10 from 6-9:00 p.m. All wineries represented are Latino-owned and/or operated. The benefit for AltaMed, which delivers services and health care to locally under-served communities, includes over 40 food and wine options, music by Jose Rizo and the Jazz on the Latin Side All Stars and auction, held in one of L.A.'s best settings. The following night, on Saturday, July 11, the Concern Foundation's 35th Annual Block Party at Paramount starts at 6:00 p.m., featuring a performance by Billy Vera and the Beaters and almost 60 food and bev stations on the studio's New York back lot to raise money for cancer research. Susan G. Komen Foundation of Los Angeles County sponsors Dine Out for the Cure on Wednesday, July 15, with an extensive roster of L.A. restaurants donating ten percent of their gross profits to the fight against breast cancer. To support this effort, plan to eat at Ford's Filling Station, Rush Street, BLVD 16, Roy's, or La Grande Orange, among others; check the growing list of participants here. If your appetite, pocketbook and philanthropic urges aren't totally worn out, the Saban Free Clinic's Extravaganza for the Senses is Saturday, July 18 on the Fox lot. General admission is $100, or until July 9 get the second ticket at half price, or buy three and get the fourth free.
