A DJ died after he was beaten at Hollywood club Cashmere over the weekend, authorities said.

Family members this week started a GoFundMe page to help the family of Jose Silva, who was also known as DJ Steez. The page says that “everyone who knew Jose knows he was such a great person. He had a heart of gold.”

Cops responded to reports of a battery requiring paramedics at Cashmere, 6757 Hollywood Blvd., early Saturday morning, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Mike Lopez told us.

He said investigators believe the beating happened between 12:15 and 12:45 a.m.

Twenty-year-old Silva, identified on the GoFundMe page, suffered “blunt force trauma to head after a physical assault” at the club, Lopez said.

At 6:40 p.m. on Sunday the DJ was pronounced dead at a hospital, he said.

The “circumstances and motive” for the attack were unknown, Lopez said. A friend, identified as Dinora Lopez, told KTLA News, however, that Silva was trying to help a pal.

“A fight broke out and he tried to save his friend,” she said.

Police were looking for two or three men who appeared to be ages 28 to 35, Lopez said. Descriptions were vague.

A coroner's official told us that an investigation into the precise cause of Silva's death had not yet begun.

Anyone with information on the attack was asked to call West Bureau Homicide detectives at 213-382-9470.
