23-Year-Old Man Dead after Auto Collision near State Route 126

CASTAIC, CA (March 3, 2022) – Tuesday evening, 23-year-old Diego Valencia, of Castaic was killed in a two-car crash on 5 Freeway.

California Highway Patrol officers responded to the scene around 10:10 p.m., on the northbound lanes just south of State Route 126.

Investigators said a 2002 Volkswagen Golf crashed into the center median concrete barrier, eventually coming to rest perpendicular on the roadway. Afterwards, a 2019 Hyundai Ioniq struck the left side of the Volkswagen.

As a result, the 42-year-old Hyundai driver from Sylmar sustained minor injuries.

Due to the extent of injuries sustained, the 23-year-old Castaic man driving the Volkswagen died at the scene. Authorities later identified him as Diego Valencia.

At this time, Castaic Officials are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact the CHP Newhall Area Office at 661-600-1600.
