TMZ is reporting that the legal team of the doctor charged on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson is preparing to argue that the King of Pop gave himself the final and fatal dose of an anesthetic drug.

Doctor Conrad Murray's defense team, however, denied the report, according to CNN. TMZ claims that the team will say Jackson gave himself the dose when Murray left the room as he tended him on the morning of June 25 at the pop star's home in Holmby Hills.

A coroner's report alleges that Jackson died from “acute propofol intoxication,” and the District Attorney's office seems prepared to argue that Murray gave it to him despite experts' warnings that such a powerful anesthetic should only be used in well-equipped medical settings.

It would have been very unlikely Jackson gave himself the drug given the hospital-like, intravenous set-up that was at the home on the day of his death, according to the county coroner's office.

Meanwhile, CNN reports that representatives of the California medical board will ask a judge to suspend Murray's California medical license — at the behest of Attorney General Jerry Brown — as a condition of the doctor's bail-secured freedom during the proceedings against him. A hearing is scheduled for Monday morning in the criminal courts building downtown.

Murray has pleaded not guilty in the case.
