Maybe Lindsay Lohan is just forgetful.

TMZ is reporting that days before her fateful meeting with a $2,500 necklace at a Venice jewelry store she almost walked out with a diamond earring she had tried on.

And here's the upstart:

She left her own, more expensive earrings on the counter. According tot he site:

This happened on Jan. 18, four days before she allegedly walked out of the same store, Kamofie & Company on Abbot Kinney Boulevard, with the now-famous necklace. (How much is it worth now?).

She reportedly tried on one of two 18 karat gold white diamond earrings and at some point started to walk out before a clerk reminded Lohan she was still wearing on one of the pieces.

TMZ's Harvey Levin told Fox 11 News Thursday that, similarly, she had tried the necklace on four days later and walked out with the piece obscured by her own jewels.

On Wednesday Lohan pleaded not guilty to felony theft in that case.

LAX Superior Court Judge Keith L. Schwartz revoked her probation in a DUI case and set a hearing for Feb. 23 — meaning she could be sent back to jail. For now she's free on $20,000 bail.

In a statement sure to be remixed and mashed up, he told her:

“So what I'm telling you is you need to follow the laws just like everybody else. Look around this room. Everyone in this room has to follow the law, the court, the D.A., your attorney, the sheriff's deputies, everybody. You're no different than anyone else. So please, don't push your luck.”
