The man, identified in reports as an LAX-based worker, was being held on suspicion of possessing or exploding “a destructive device near an aircraft,” the department said in a statement:

Bennett was arrested after detectives with the LAPD's Criminal Conspiracy Section, Major Crimes Division, Counter-Terrorism and Special Operations Bureau tracked him down, the department stated.

According to L.A. County Sheriff's inmate data he was arrested at 7 p.m. and was being held in lieu of $1 million bail.

The LAPD attributed the 6:40 p.m. Sunday explosion of a dry-ice device at LAX to the suspect. That item went off “inside the employees men's restroom at Los Angeles International Airport, terminal Number 2, and near an aircraft at Tom Bradley terminal Number 148,” the department stated.

A total of four dry ice devices were found at the airport Sunday and Monday night, and two of them went off, police told us.

The dry-ice explosives usually involve a disposable water bottle and are more prank than terror, but they shook up the airport nonetheless.
