Two Pronounced Dead after Auto Accident near Center Avenue

MARTINEZ, CA (May 17, 2023) – Late Wednesday night, Diana Zuniga and Jeremiah Smeby were killed in a 2-car collision on Highway 4. Authorities responded to the scene around 10:45 p.m., near Center Avenue on May 10th. Per reports, the driver of a westbound gray Honda Civic crashed into a white Toyota Corolla. As a result, both vehicles lost control and exited the highway before traveling down an embankment. The cars then came to a rest after crashing into two trees. Despite life-saving efforts, medics pronounced 18-year-old Zuniga, of San Pablo dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the 49-year-old Toyota driver, Smeby from Antioch, was rushed to a local hospital with major injuries. Due to the extent of injuries sustained, Smeby was pronounced dead the next day. At this time, an active investigation to determine further information is still currently underway.
