Pedestrian Fatally Struck near North Cedar Avenue

FRESNO, CA (December 2, 2021) – Saturday morning, 23-year-old Devan Nicole Elayda was killed in a hit-and-run collision on Highway 180.

Around 2:50 a.m., Elayda pulled over on the eastbound lanes of the highway and exited her vehicle. A passing vehicle then struck her near North Cedar Avenue.

Emergency crews responded after receiving multiple dispatch calls in the area. Despite life-saving efforts, 23-year-old Devan Elayda, of Fresno died at the scene.

The surrounding area was closed during cleanup duties, but has since reopened. The suspect vehicle was later described as a silver Lexus.

Investigators say a 16-year-old and 17-year-old were occupying the Lexus at the time. However, they are unsure as to who was driving.

The driver will face felony hit-and-run charges, and the passenger can be charged for not reporting the crash.
