One Dead after Driver Runs Red Light; Causes Five-Car Crash in Phoenix

PHOENIX, AZ (May 25, 2021) – Sunday morning, May 16, 46-year-old Dereck Ashe, died in a fatal five-vehicle crash on 27th Avenue.

The crash took place at around 2 a.m. at the 27th Avenue and Camelback Road, as stated by the report.

A white Acura sedan was driving south on 27th Avenue when the driver failed to stop at the red light at Camelback Road. Then, the Acura collided with an eastbound blue Chrysler sedan.

After the initial collision, the Acura also struck three other vehicles that were waiting at the light on the south side of the intersection.

The Acura driver was later taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. Due to the impact of the crash, his passenger later identified as Dereck Ashe, died at the scene. The other drivers involved remained uninjured.

At this time, the crash is still being investigated.
