These days, William Shatner doesn't seem to go anywhere without doing so boldly. Through good humor and strange career choices, the former Captain James Tiberius Kirk has become a beloved household icon for even those fans who don't speak Klingon — thanks to Emmy-winning TV roles (The Practice), fantastically hokey product endorsements (“Price-line Neg-ot-i-A-TOR!”) and spoken-word takes on everyone from Sarah Palin to Rihanna (“ella, ay, ay, ay”). And though Shatner has released several solo albums on the side since 1968, he's currently exploring (of all things) the strange new world of prog-rock. On his latest album, this month's Ponder the Mystery, Shatner partners with members of Tangerine Dream, Hawkwind, The Doors and Yes, and he's bringing both the names from Yes and the entire conceptual collaboration with him to Hermosa Beach. Just don't call it his final frontier. Saint Rocke, 142 E. Pacific Coast Hwy, Hermosa Beach; Wed., Oct. 23, 8 p.m.; $48, 21 and older. sainterocke.com.
