We always thought that Dennis Zine had control issues. Not just because he's a former cop who continues to work as a reservist, or for his alleged, lobbyist-in-a-skirt-chasing ways.

No, he's a self-styled deficit hawk on the L.A. City Council. And today he made his issues official:

He's running for L.A. City Controller:

I have spent my career protecting the public, both as a police officer and as a city councilman. I don't tolerate fraud, waste or abuse and have been an independent fighter for the residents of Los Angeles for more than four decades.

(Too bad they don't make handcuffs for government cash wasters).

And so, the councilman from the West Valley filed papers to run for Wendy Greuel's job in 2013. It's one of three citywide elected offices that also include mayor and City Attorney. Greuel is gunning for mayor.

Zine, chair of the council's Audits and Governmental Efficiency Committee , said he would “have my auditors not only audit after an incident, but prior to.”

Aye, aye, sarge.

(He also terms out in 2013).
