A cancer-stricken Dennis Hopper showed up to his star reveal on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Friday sporting bandages on his head and right hand, claiming that a paparazzo startled him and caused him to fall outside his home Thursday.

“I've been working for this day to look as good as possible to be as strong as possible so I got out of my house yesterday and I was in the middle of the road going to the van, and I was walking and somebody yelled from down the block, `Hey Dennis,''' he said. ” … I thought I recognized the voice, so I kept walking and turned around but I didn't see the little ridgeline in the road and I took a terrible fall because I have no muscle.”

Hopper said he fell on his face and hand. He's going through what appears to be a bitter divorce and, at the same, he's been battling cancer. Reports have described him as being in bad shape and “frail,” but it's not clear if the observations are true or if the actor is plying his trade to get the best deal in divorce court.

One morning TV news report even stated that Hopper was expected to appear at the Friday ceremony in a wheel chair. That, apparently, did not turn out to be the case. The Weekly has sources who described him as looking just fine in recent months.

His attorney states that Hopper is terminally ill and too weak to be deposed in the divorce case. He filed for divorce from his wife of nearly 14 years, Victoria Hopper, in January.

Hopper on Friday got the 2,403rd star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, with placement in front of the Egyptian Theatre.
