San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom has won the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor, beating out Los Angeles City Councilwoman Janice Hahn.

With 25 percent of statewide precincts reporting, Hahn has just released a concession statement, congratulating Newsom on his inevitable victory.

So far, Newsom has grabbed 55 percent of the vote to Hahn's 32 percent.

Coming from a well-known, Los Angeles political family, Hahn was considered the front-runner until Newsom jumped late into the race in March.

Newsom now moves forward to meet Lieutenant Governor Abel Maldonado, the winner of the Republican primary, in the general election. Maldonado was appointed to the office earlier this year by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
