When you are in pain, you need every tool available to feel better. Many people who struggle with pain seek alternatives to addictive prescription painkillers like the cannabinoids in cannabis plants. You have probably heard of the cannabinoid CBD, but you may not know about Delta 8 THC. Traditional marijuana contains Delta 9 THC, but it is possible to derive a milder THC called Delta 8 from CBD. Delta 8 and CBD are both sought out for their ability to relieve pain, from minor aches to chronic pain.

That raises the question: which one is better for pain management, CBD or Delta 8? We break down everything you need to know about these increasingly popular remedies for pain.

What Is Delta 8 THC?

Delta 8 is the latest THC trend to hit the market. Like Delta 9 THC, Delta 8 has similar psychoactive effects at about half the potency. As a result, the D8 “high” you get is less harsh with fewer adverse side effects. Delta-8 effects are milder and free of paranoia and couch lock. Users report improved clarity and focus, making Delta 8 a more appealing option for anyone who wants to sidestep the forgetfulness that can come with using traditional marijuana.

Delta 8 is legal at the federal level (providing that the product contains less than 0.3% of Delta 9 THC), and it may be legal in your state. For some people, Delta 8 THC provides a legal way to enjoy a high comparable to Delta 9.

Delta 8 and Pain Management

Delta 8 THC offers similar health benefits to CBD, including pain management. In a study on rodents, researchers combined Delta 8 and CBD for a topical application. They found that it activated both CB1 and CB2 receptors in the test subjects, resulting in a potent analgesic or pain-relieving effect. Delta 8 can also reduce inflammation, potentially leading to reduced pain. Additional clinical studies are needed to determine Delta 8’s effectiveness for acute pain caused by high-intensity exercise or physical labor.

Highly addictive opioids are still regularly prescribed by doctors, but some patients are wary of taking these medications after seeing how many people have become dependent on them. Delta 8 can offer relief to people who struggle with severe or chronic pain and avoid addictive painkillers. Consuming Delta 8 products should not be used in place of treatment from medical professionals.

CBD and Pain Management

CBD is a cannabinoid found in cannabis plants, and it is often applied topically to treat pain in a localized area such as your knee or wrist. Although more research is needed, CBD shows promise for helping with chronic pain, arthritis pain, migraine pain, and chemotherapy side effects.

Users like that CBD is legal and has no risk of addiction. It does not get you high, making it an excellent option for anyone who wants the health benefits of cannabinoids without the psychoactive effects.

Isn’t Delta 8 Made from CBD? How Are They Different?

Yes, but Delta-8 THC and CBD are different in several ways. They have different molecular structures. Cannabis plants contain only trace amounts of Delta 8 but have higher levels of CBD and Delta 9 THC. It is more efficient for manufacturers to make Delta 8 from CBD.

CBD is converted into Delta 8 through an isomerization process that has been around for decades.

Delta 8 has mild psychoactive effects, but CBD has none. Both cannabinoids, however, are sought after as a source of pain relief. It is worth noting that many of the studies referenced above examine how a combination of CBD and THC work to reduce pain and inflammation. If you are interested in the potential of cannabinoids to relieve your pain, consider a product that combines Delta 8 THC and CBD to get the best results.

Look for Premium Delta 8 and CBD Products

If you purchase Delta 8 THC, CBD, or D8 + CBD products, make sure they are made from USA-grown hemp. Additionally, find products that an independent lab has verified to contain only the ingredients listed on the label. There is little government oversight of these products, and this extra step is necessary to keep you safe. If you are already struggling with pain, you do not want to risk taking products that could harm you. Only purchase premium Delta-8 and CBD products from reputable companies.
