Los Angeles police have a lot of animals to contend with on the mean streets of the second largest city in America. And sometimes cops have no choice but to shoot.

Officials say that was the case over the weekend when officers confronted … a deer.

The deer, sadly, lost. But don't blame the boys and girls in blue just yet:

Fish and Game officials, but no dice. No Fish and Game officers were around to respond in a decent amount of time, apparently.

And so Fish and Game authorities told the cops to do the unthinkable — put the deer out of its misery, Rayner said.

They did what needed to be done.

Now why L.A. city officers are doing the job of Fish and Game authorities? That's probably a whole 'notha story.
