Two-Car Collision on Athens Left One Man Dead

HENDERSON COUNTY, TX [September 5, 2023] – Sunday evening, Declan Allen Buss was killed in a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 19. The incident occurred shortly before 7:39 p.m., near State Highway 19, just east of Athens. Per reports, Buss lost control of his vehicle while going on a roadway westbound. He allegedly subsequently entered the westbound lanes and collided with another vehicle being operated by 87-year-old Harold Ray Rash. Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced the 16-year-old male passenger from Chrysler dead at the scene. Officials later stated that the driver of the Lincoln Corsair, Rash, 98, did not sustain injuries as a result of the collision. Following preliminary duties, officers do not believe that drugs or alcohol were a factor. However, an active investigation is still currently underway.
