The Hollywood Hills are alive with the sound of partying this time of year.

But gunfire was the sound that brought police to Camrose Drive and Sycamore Avenue last night, authorities said. Police and fire officials said a victim in his early 20s was struck by gunfire and hospitalized.

The attack was reported at 8:40 p.m., according to a Los Angeles Police Department officer.

ABC Eyewitness News reports that the suspect was declared dead at the scene. 

The violence erupted in an otherwise upscale neighborhood just blocks from the Hollywood Bowl.

It wasn't clear what precipitated the attack. No suspect information was available.

UPDATE at 2:48 p.m., Monday, Dec. 28, 2015: Police have confirmed the victim died. They identified the victim as 27-year-old Henry Estrada.

A suspect “left in a white or silver sedan eastbound on Camrose Drive,” the LAPD said in a statement today.
