Remember Three Kings, the David O. Russell war drama starring Ice Cube? And the original Three Kings, those bearded, robe-bedecked fellas that gave the Baby Jesus all that cool stuff?
Well, there's a new Three Kings in town and it aims to bridge the gap between quirky greatness of the former and fashion sense of the latter.
Yesterday, local stoner rock royalty Dead Meadow unleashed upon the world its long-awaited “multimedia project” titled, of course, Three Kings. Today, the world struggles to figure out exactly what that means.
The trio's latest release is a feature-length film and soundtrack whose audio side contains five brand new songs and 11 re-recorded jams from the band's five-album oeuvre.
As for the visuals, little yet is known, but that can be remedied if you manage to score tickets to Dead Meadow's performance/screening at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery on Thursday night (in the Masonic Hall, of course). The only way to guarantee a place in that small room is to order Three Kings directly from the band.
What's known about the film: a portion of it was animated by artist Charles Wish, much of it is actually concert footage, and the band looks more than a little douchey dressed as Adidas-wearing druids (those are three stripes in that photo up there — count 'em).
Check out a trailer, a video, the tracklisting and a new song:
Spin has the exclusive stream of new Dead Meadow tune “To The One” (a privilege which they pay back by referring to the band as still based in D.C.) and you can watch the trailer for Three Kings — as well as a strikingly music-video-like excerpt — below.
