72-Year-Old Driver Arrested after Deadly Hit-and-Run Collision near Morris Street

LAS VEGAS, NV (August 15, 2022) – Late Thursday morning, David Phillips was arrested after fatally striking a pedestrian on Tropicana Avenue.

Police responded to the scene around 11:11 a.m., near Morris Street on August 11th.

According to reports, Phillips was driving an eastbound Hyundai Sonata when he struck a woman who was walking outside of a marked crosswalk on the highway. Upon impact, Phillips fled the scene.

Meanwhile, medics transported the severely injured pedestrian to Sunrise Hospital where she later died.

An RTV bus driver offered the suspect’s vehicle and license plate information to police, leading to his arrest. As a result, 72-year-old David Phillips was taken into custody with charges of driving under the influence and leaving the scene.

Surveillance video from the store shows the involved Hyundai arriving at an Albertson’s parking lot shortly after the incident.
