Big news for film geeks came recently when it was announced that John Landis was returning to horror-comedy with a project about Scottish body snatchers Burke and Hare (co-starring Simon Pegg, no less. Sweet!) After all, the man did direct what may be the definitive film in the genre in 1981 … an assessment with which British filmmaker Paul Davis would undoubtedly agree. His documentary Beware the Moon: Remembering An American Werewolf In London, getting its L.A. premiere at the New Beverly this week, is, by all accounts, a richly detailed and loving chronicle of the making of Landis' painfully funny and piss-yourself-scary yarn about a cute, sweet Jewish kid who ends up on the wrong end of a lycanthrope's fangs while on his European vacation. Among the highlights are interviews with the entire cast (David Naughton, Jenny Agutter, Griffin Dunne, et. al.), Landis, his wife and costume designer, Deborah Nadoolman, Oscar-winning creature creator Rick Baker … pretty much the whole gang's here, folks. And you should be, too — Baker will be there, and other special guests at the New Bev's premiere to be announced. American Werewolf will screen, also, following the doc.
