Pedro Pantoja Jr. Arrested after Fatal DUI Hit-and-Run on Park Avenue in Tustin

TUSTIN, CA (April 22, 2021) – Sunday morning, David Kawashima was killed in a DUI hit-and-run crash on Park Avenue.

The accident happened at 8:45 a.m., on April 18. Police were called to the 2800 block of Park Avenue after receiving reports of an unresponsive occupant in a drive-through.

When Tustin Police arrived, the driver fled in what was later determined to be a stolen vehicle. 29-year-old Pedro Pantoja Jr., then continued north on Jamboree Road for about 300 yards before striking a car near Warner Avenue.

Due to the impact of the crash, the driver of the other vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities identified him as David Kawashima, 62, of Orange.

In addition, Pantoja and his female passenger suffered minor injuries and were transported to a hospital. Officials later arrested Pantoja on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, causing injury to a passenger while DUI, car theft, parole violation, and evading a police officer.
