Update: A previous version of this post included a misidentified photo and incorrect Facebook information about Darleen Monarrez. We apologize for the mistake.

A single-vehicle crash at the intersection of South Broadway and West Century Boulevard in the wee hours this morning left one 22-year-old passenger dead at the scene. City News Service identifies her this afternoon as Darleen Rosemary Monarrez of Long Beach.

The driver, who LAPD Sergeant Ruben Vega believes was under the influence of alcohol, was also critically injured in the 1:41 a.m. crash. He's currently being treated at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, but could be arrested for drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter once he recovers.

City News Service provides the following details about the accident:

A car allegedly driven by a drunken motorist slammed into a wall and overturned near a South Los Angeles intersection early today…

[Vega] said two men and two women were pinned inside the car, and firefighters had to extricate them. [But they] were not seriously hurt, he said.
