91-Year-Old Pedestrian Fatally Struck in Deadly Collision on 20th Street

OAKLAND, CA (April 26, 2022) 91-year-old Dao Cheng Zhu was killed Friday morning, in a pedestrian crash on Telegraph Avenue.

According to police, the incident happened around 7:00 a.m., on April 22. Crews arrived to the scene in the 2000 block of Telegraph Avenue near 20th Street.

Following preliminary investigations, investigators say that the driver of a vehicle was attempting to turn west onto 20th Street. There, the vehicle struck Zhu, who was crossing Telegraph Avenue.

Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced the elderly victim dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, the involved driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigators. Although, authorities have not yet released their identity.

Additionally, both directions of the roadway were temporarily closed down to allow for cleanup and preliminary duties. Oakland officials are encouraging anyone with information about the crash to contact traffic investigators at 510-777-8570.
