9-Year-Old Killed in Deadly Accident in Stanislaus County

STANISLAUS COUNTY, CA (March 11, 2021) – Wednesday afternoon, Daniel Vega was hurt and Rael Verduczo and Erika Tineo-Verduczo were killed in a crash on I-5.

The accident occurred around 1:00 p.m., on March 3. A box truck driven by 27-year-old Catarino Torres Jr. of Modesto, crashed into the back of a Toyota sedan driven by Vega.

Officers say the Toyota had slowed down and was pulling over due to a flat tire. There, the truck rear-ended the Toyota. Reports indicate that the driver “admitted to reaching for something within his truck and looked away momentarily,” a CHP officer said.

As a result, Daniel Vega and his 4-year-old passenger were injured and taken to a local hospital. Rael Verduczo and 9-year-old Erika Tineo-Verduczo died on scene. Torres remained uninjured.

At this time, authorities have not released further information. Once available, more details will be provided.
