Los Angeles Police Department detectives are looking for the gunman who ran up to a group of people and shot at them March 24.

According to police reports, at around 9 p.m., 20-year-old Daniel Smith and friends were walking northbound in the 7000 block of Raymond Avenue near West 70th Street in South Los Angeles when a black male gunman stepped out of his grey vehicle and began shooting at them. Smith's friends were able to run away and were not hit by the gunfire.

Smith was struck by the gunfire and fell onto the sidewalk. He died at the scene. The gunman got back into his vehicle and drove off westbound towards 70th Street. It is unclear whether the incident is gang-related. Anyone with information about the shooting should contact LAPD 77th Division detectives at (213) 485-1383.
