Crescent City Head-On Collision Leaves One Fatality

CRESCENT CITY, CA (August 19, 2021) – CHP officers are investigating a head-on crash that claimed the life of Daniel Raper on Friday.

According to the investigators, Raper lost control of his 1997 Ford Explorer while traveling on the highway just north of mile-post marker 10.80.

Officers arrived to the scene around 1:45 p.m.

As a result, his vehicle veered across the double yellow lines and collided with a southbound 2017 Acura MDX, driven by Xiangping Zhang.

Eventually, medical personnel arrived and performed life saving efforts on Rapert. However, 66-year-old Daniel Raper succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene.

Meanwhile, paramedics transported Xiangping Zhang and two of his passengers to Sutter Coast Hospital with unspecified conditions.

The Crescent City Officials are working to identify the circumstances surrounding the deadly head-on crash.
