For the past year and a half readers of Daniel Hernandez's Intersections blog have enjoyed the former L.A. Weekly reporter's wry dispatches from Mexico City, to where he moved after years of working in L.A. for this publication and the L.A. Times. There in the D.F., Hernandez discovered a buoyant, often surreal city of animated salons, narco combat, graffiti and swine flu. Back in Los Angeles for the week, Hernandez will be holding forth on “How Does Mexico Survive?” at the Zócalo talk series tonight. His insights about a people dealing with crisis after crisis should put our own relatively containable turmoils into perspective.
