The Music Box becomes Hollywood's most dubtastic hub Friday night, Beatdown, when one of the guys known as dubstep's “ambassador,” Joe Nice (Dubwar, NYC), takes the decks. The ferocious and funky beats go full-throttle with Nice in command, but other grime-ish groovers promise to keep the pulse moving: L.A.'s own Freaky Flow (celebrating the release of his album The Furious Factor), NumberNin6, Dive Elements (live), Eva + 007, Nomad (Live), Da Moth and dance performances from Pandora, Preying Mantas, Tronick and Sina Sonja. 6126 Hollywood Blvd., Hlywd. beatdownla.com. The competition, Control, will see more haircut-minded neo-raver hordes, when Le Castle Vania and Paparazzi head the hump-fest. Don't let either DJ's sideways indie-boy locks fool ya; each is adept at rocking a dance party hard, infusing punky sensibilities into their relentless electronic sets. The Friday frenzy at Avalon will also include Computer Club, BB Guns, Ed Gould in the main room, plus We Are All Freaks, Brando Commando and others. 1735 Vine St., Hlywd. avalonhollywood.net. Both clubs, Fri., May 14.
