UPDATE at 3:28 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014: Bilzerian has been released by L.A. authorities. Details below.

Dan Bilzerian, the professional gambler and full-time playboy, was arrested at LAX last night based on a criminal complaint out of the Las Vegas area that claims the 34-year-old tried to make a bomb.

The complaint from the Clark County District Attorney's office is dated November 13, an official said. The document claims that Bilzerian possessed “ammonium and/or cooler and/or aluminum powder, with intent to manufacture an explosive or incendiary device.” It also alleges he possessed such a device.

He was arrested at 8:30 last night by LAX police and held without bail, according to L.A. Sheriff's Department inmate data.

Bilzerian had been in Miami over the weekend, apparently to attend Art Basel and celebrate his Dec. 7 birthday.

On the eve of his birthday, it was reported, he allegedly kicked a woman in the face at Miami Beach club LIV.  But that didn't appear to be the source of the celebrity's arrest.

The Clark County complaint alleges that an ammonium-nitrate mix, if activated by Bilzerian, “could be readily converted to an explosive or incendiary device in or upon any public street or highway and/or in or near any private habitation, public place or any place open to the public and/or in, on or near any public conveyance.”

Bilzerian is a gun lover who has posed for photos with high-power, military grade rifles in-hand, including for a recent feature in Details magazine.

The allegation contains two counts, possession of bomb-making components with the intent to make a destructive device and possession of a bomb or incendiary device.

An official with the Clark County District Attorney's office explained that the first count was worth 1 to 6 years behind bars and the second was worth 1 to 4 years if prosecutors are successful with their case.

Each count also caries the possibility of a $5,000 fine.

In May Bilzerian, at his Las Vegas home, threw a model off a roof toward a pool and apparently missed. The model sustained a broken foot and asked for $85,000, to no avail.

Saturday night's fracas at LIV was explained by Bilzerian, known for posting photos with celebrities and attractive women on his social media accounts, this way:

2 girlz attacked a girl I was with to the point they gave her a black eye and threw her off the table and went after her, b/c they wanted to get closer to me.

UPDATE at 3:28 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014: Bilzerian was released at 1:16 p.m., according to sheriff's inmate data. It's not clear if he walked or if he was transferred to the custody of another jurisdiction.
